What is Theosophy?

The actual word Theosophy is a Greek derivative meaning Divine Wisdom but that doesn’t mean much to the enquirer.

In the Theosophical Movement, the word has a more specific meaning in relation to the work of Society co-founder Helena Petrovna Blavatsky and later writers. H P Blavatsky’s mission was to interpret Eastern Esoteric ideas for Western Society.

H P Blavatsky’s remit was to describe a scheme for the existence of the Universe and to define man’s place within that scheme. Her remit also encompassed study of the hidden dimensions of man and his potential and also the Laws of Nature.

But It’s Not a Religion

H P Blavatsky presented her work as ideas for consideration and not as dogma. This format has been upheld by the Theosophical Society and everything is negotiable.

Members of the Theosophical Society are simply required to agree with its 3 objects (outlined below)

The Three Objects of the Theosophical Society

The Seven Principles of Man

Annie Besant

Annie Besant’s “The Seven Principles of Man” was written in 1909 and has long been recognized as an authoritative introduction to the Theosophical model of the visible and invisible aspects of ourselves.

Yes, we all operate at 7 levels

We’re all familiar with the physical body and to some people the physical body is the whole self.

It is, however, a bit more complicated than that and can be a bit of a shock for those who identify too closely with the physical self.

Our physical body represents only the visible manifestation of ourselves on the physical plane of nature. There are six other planes of nature and we are all represented on each one. To put in an appearance we have a body or principle corresponding to each plane. Anne Besant now takes you through the seven aspects that we all have.

Intoduction  The Dense Physical Body   The Etheric Double

Prana, The Life  The Desire Body  Manas, The Thinker, or Mind

The Quaternary, Or Four Lower Principles

Subtle Forms of The Fourth and Fifth Principle

The Higher Manas  Âtma – Buddhi, The Spirit  Manas in Activity

The Monad in Evolution  Lines of Proof for  an Untrained Enquirer

2009 Starts with a Boost for Theosophy

at the Bangor, Conwy & Swansea Lodges

The news that the Regional Association of

the Theosophical Society in Wales (formed 1993)

has recently received a pecuniary bequest

of £3000  has to be greeted with overwhelming

enthusiasm by the members of the three

 Regional Association affiliated Lodges in

Bangor, Conwy and Swansea.

The possibilities for a massive boost in

Theosophical activities at these Lodges

are enormous and great things are

probably, at this moment, being planned.

How to Spend 3000 Quid

There is no doubt that the bequest left to the

Regional Association will be put to good use

but here are some humorous alternative suggestions

Tekels Park to be Sold to a Developer

What Will Happen to the Wildlife?

Members of the Theosophical Society worldwide are dismayed to learn that this Jewel in the Theosophical Crown, Tekels Park, is to be sold to a developer.

Tekels Park is a 50 acre woodland park in Camberley, Surrey, England which was purchased for the Theosophical Society in England in 1929.

Concerns are being raised about the fate of the deer and other wildlife and there has been no comment on this issue from Tekels Park Estate Limited, who manage the Park on behalf of the Adyar based Theosophical Society in England.

Tekels Park is sanctuary for  animal wildlife Including deer, foxes, squirrels, badgers and stoats, and for birdlife including sparrowhawks, woodpeckers, tawny owls and many more. There are many species of trees including 3 types of redwood, ginkgo, eucalyptus, red oak, tall magnolias and lebanese cedars.

Madeleine Leslie-Smith, a long-term resident of Tekels Park wrote 'A personal recollection' in 1996. She commented: 'Tekels Park is in reality a mini Nature reserve ... It is up to us to preserve it from encroachment so that it may increasingly become a centre of Peace and dynamic spirituality'
